The Libertine Restaurant Interior Design

The Libertine

Our design for The Libertine bar and restaurant, nestled within the historic, Grade-1 listed underground vaults of The Royal Exchange, seamlessly marries history with contemporary design. Our journey commenced with a deep dive into The Royal Exchange's storied past, woven with tales of two previous versions succumbing to fire, providing a rich tapestry of inspiration.

The entrance serves as the prologue, immersing guests in an antique shop adorned with equine-themed artefacts—a subtle homage to Queen Elizabeth I's equestrian passion. The descent down a spiral staircase reveals the vaulted space featuring a 14-meter bar, an awe-inspiring focal point boasting an illuminated glazed antique brass framework and exposed copper beer tanks. Modern materials, such as charred timber and fumed oak, delicately nod to the building's history, infusing a contemporary premium edge.

Adjacent to the main bar, the 90-seater restaurant showcases bespoke leather banquettes, a custom wine display, and unique lighting by Studio Found, all discreetly referencing the building's storied past.

Venturing beyond the main vaults, an intimate apothecary beckons, adorned with old bottles and artefacts within bespoke joinery. This versatile space, adaptable for private events, pays homage to The Royal Exchange's history.

Every detail, from materials to fixtures, is meticulously considered, layering in additional details, we curated a comprehensive styling concept, meticulously sourcing, designing, and staging objects.

Collaboration between our team and Incipio's operational team ensured optimal functionality with flexible joinery allowing for easy adaptation of spaces, reflecting a commitment to guest experience and practicality.
